ABRAHAM JOSHUA HESCHEL (1907-1972)
Fulfilling the mitzvah of study (talmud Torah)
taught Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel how to make the world a
better place for all people. He fought for the civil rights
of African Americans and for the freedom of oppressed Jews
in what was then called the Soviet Union.

JONAS SALK (1914-1995)
Jonas Salk received the Presidential Citation and
Congressional Medal for Distinguished Achievement for his
many contributions to public health (pikuah nefesh).
His discovery of the vaccine against polio saved thousands
of children's lives.
