It's a Mitzvah!
Nothing should interfere with the act of helping a bride
and groom celebrate their wedding. Even if you are
studying the Torah, the rabbis said, when a wedding
procession passes your window, you should put aside
your books and join in the celebration.

Then the groom does something very unusual. A glass
wrapped in a cloth is placed on the floor, and the
groom crushes it under his foot. Afterwards, the
wedding guests shout "Mazal Tov! Good
Luck!" In some congregations, the bride may
break the glass as well.
The ceremony has ended, but the celebration continues
with music and dancing, food and singing. Sometimes
the bride and groom are lifted on chairs and carried
around the room during this joyful simhah.
