Project Based Thinking for the High Holidays: #BlogElul 2013
Written by Behrman House Staff, 13 of August, 2013Can you schedule reflection? Can you plan inspiration?
Rabbi Phyllis Sommer has been encouraging friends and colleagues to #BlogElul. With a list of crowdsourced topics from "Prepare" and "Know", to "Accept" and "Bless" she has created a schedule covering every day during the month of Elul. 29 topics for 29 days to help participants reflect on the coming High Holy Days.
That's a lot of reflection. And having a set schedule sounds constraining--write at a set time about a set topic? What if inspiration won't strike?
And yet perhaps it is more freeing. The writer stares at the blank page or screen and the mind races all over the page and wonders, "What will I write ABOUT?" Well, Rabbi Sommer has given us 29 topics. All we have to do is take them on, one at a time, with words, photos, videos, artwork.
Perhaps there is something here to use for our students. Have them engage in some project-based thinking.
Join Rabbi Phyllis Sommer, our own Vicki Weber, and many others who are sharing thoughts on a schedule, posting on topics related to the High Holy Days during the month of Elul. You can follow all the posts on Twitter at #BlogElul. Want to try it yourself? Check the schedule below and see what inspiration you can conjure. Don't tweet or blog? Come to Behrman House's Facebook page and leave your message there. We'll get it posted for you!
