New Hot Topics Series Kicks Off with a Free Lesson Plan
Guns kill an average of eight young people under age 20 every day in the United States. Because of the dangers guns can present, proponents of gun control advocate for new laws that will limit gun possession, sales, and use. But while some want more gun control laws, others believe that the right to bear arms - granted to every U.S. citizen by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution - should be protected.
The latest Hot Topic article invites students to engage in the gun control debate by analyzing advertisements for and against gun control, and studying Jewish sources that support and oppose gun control.
Your 7-10th grade students will be able to:
- Understand some of the issues in the debate over gun control
- Study Jewish texts relevant to the debate
- Design their own ad campaigns for or against gun control
- Learn gun safety tips
You can find the Hot Topics: Gun Control lesson here.
Each Hot Topic edition includes an article, a lesson plan for a 50 minute class, and a glossary of terms. A new topic will become available every two weeks for $3.99. Other subjects include" Body image, Israel's policies, marijuana, and more.
