Hot Topics: The Vaccine Debate
Written by Behrman House Staff, 09 of March, 2015
The recent measles outbreak has renewed the debate about whether parents should be required to vaccinate their children.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), measles is the "most deadly of all childhood rash/fever illnesses." While infection is preventable with a common childhood vaccine, increasing numbers of parents are opting out of having their children immunized.
If the Jewish law requires us to take good care of our health and our bodies, should vaccines be required for all healthy children? Help students consider this question and more with the new Hot Topics: The Vaccine Debate.
This new resource will help students:
- Understand how vaccination prevents the spread of disease
- Study Jewish texts about keeping others healthy
- Brainstorm ways to keep other people healthy
