Written by Behrman House Staff, 19 of January, 2015
Hot Topics: Homosexuality and the Jewish Community
Hot Topics: Should Students Criticize Israel's Policies?
Professional football is America's most popular sport and the Super Bowl is the most watched television in the country.
With the 49th Super Bowl less than two weeks away, it is a great time to discuss the safety measures and the price of a good tackle with the new Hot Topics: Making Football Safer lesson plan.
In an effort to protect NFL players from head injuries that can lead to degenerative brain disease, some fans are advocating for increased safety measures, while others don't want to see their favorite sport change.
In this lesson, students will be able to:
- Consider whether football is a healthy sport or a dangerous one.
- Study Jewish texts related to staying safe and protecting others.
- Develop a campaign to educate student athletes in their schools about the danger of concussions.
Discuss the price of a good tackle now with your copy of Hot Topics: Making Football Safer.
Hot Topics: Making Football Safer is the first edition in the second series of Hot Topics.
Students will explore five issues from a Jewish perspective featuring:
- Football/ Sports ethics
- Racism
- Underage Drinking
- Immigration
- Cyber-bullying
Each Hot Topics edition includes an article, a lesson plan for a 50 minute class, and a glossary of terms. A new topic will be available every two weeks for $3.99.
