Help Young Learners Set Goals to Reflect this Yom Kippur
Written by Behrman House Staff, 01 of October, 2014Your young students may not be ready to fast this Yom Kippur, but you can help them understand the importance of focusing on prayer to reflect with this activity from Jewish Holidays Jewish Values Journal.
Some rituals, like fasting, for holidays can be confusing to students who are still too young to participate. This fasting activity helps explain teshuvah and our efforts to be our best selves. Although your students are too young to fast, they can choose to give up something to take time to reflect.
Jewish Holidays, Jewish Values Journal, is to help learners in 3rd-5th grade identify the values exemplified in our holiday traditions and explore both the ways these values connect to their own lives, and ways they can translate these values into actions. This lesson can be expanded from the teacher materials for the student journal by Rachel Gelfman Schultz and Aliza Ziff.
