Behrman House Named 2015 New Jersey Family Business of the Year
Written by Behrman House Staff, 16 of October, 2015We won!
Behrman House is honored to be named 2015 New Jersey Family Business of the Year by Fairleigh Dickinson University's Rothman Institute, in the category of businesses under $10 million.
The New Jersey Family Business Awards recognize the contributions to the community made by New Jersey family businesses whose innovative strategies and practices have a positive impact on the state and local economy, and on society. A panel of judges comprised of previous winners and members of the business community chose the companies that best exemplified a multigenerational impact on the community, perseverance, commitment to family, and business success. "The semifinalists and finalists represent some of the very best of family business in NJ," Fairleigh Dickson University (FDU) announced.

In his remarks at the awards presentation, David Behrman stressed the "strong set of values, a culture of commitment and achievement, and a series of practices" embodied by Behrman House staff, who "live these practices every day, allowing us to navigate this perilous time in publishing, as the digital age collides with traditional print, and the separate challenges of affiliation and relevance that the Jewish community shares with so many other organized religious and cultural groups."
"Our colleagues, our customers, and yes our children watch us; they learn from us every day by what we do, by what we make, and by how we deal with each other. Those of us in family business know that this is truly our legacy. That's why I’m so proud to lead the work of Behrman House. We are an unusual business—a private company operating in the largely non-profit world of character education. I’m honored that we can be stewards of this Firm—to model the values we teach in the ways we conduct our business day to day—and in that way to build our legacy in a way that is worthy, today and tomorrow, next month and next year, of the many shoulders on which we stand." David Behrman joined Behrman House in 1991, Vicki Weber in 2003. They have been partners in the family business since a reorganization in 2011.
We want to take this time to thank YOU for your support throughout the years. Very few small family businesses have the opportunity to develop the kind of national (even international) reputation enjoyed by Behrman House. Our work with our customers across North America and as far a way as the UK, South Africa, and Australia comes with a commitment to our mission to meet the educational needs of a broad range of Jewish organizations, groups, and individuals. We deeply value the relationships we have gained from our friends and customers and we look forward to our future work with you as we enter our 95th year, and continue our third generation of Behrman family leadership.
