Art of Cantillation Audio Now Available Online
Written by Behrman House Staff, 13 of May, 2016Students of all ages learning to chant Torah or Haftarah have turned to The Art of Cantillation as their go-to guide for more than a decade. Designed for use with a tutor or as a self-teaching resource, these former URJ books come packaged with a CD of recordings corresponding to step-by-step exercises in the books.
Now, you can access all the audio tracks online for free as an alternative to the CD. This online audio supplement matches the CDs and printed books exactly. Simply choose your book, choose your track, and learn at your own pace.
Cantillation, the skill of chanting Torah, dates back more than 2,000 years. A symbol - or trope - written beneath or above a word stands for a musical pattern. The symbols may look like curves, little lines, dots or squiggles. The Art of Torah Cantillation and The Art of Cantillation Vol. 2 lead novices through each step of learning to chant the weekly Torah or Haftarah portions, and even special tropes, such as for High Holidays. The voices on the recordings include both male and female cantors. Students only need a basic ability to read Hebrew and a willingness to learn!
