Hanukkah Resources for Family Educators

Below are a few of the great online resources available for Hanukkah at BabagaNewz.com.

Share this creative ceremony with all of the families at your school: http://babaganewz.com/teachers/kindling-flames-of-courage-a-hanukkah-ceremony. It begins with lighting the hanukkiyah and saying the appropriate blessings. The ceremony then looks at the strength of heroes who stood up for their beliefs--even in times of great pressure--and inspired others to take action.

Begin a session of your parent-child learning group with these informative (and entertaining) Top Eight Hanukkah Myths: http://babaganewz.com/articles/top-eight-hanukkah-myths.

Suggest that families organize their own dreidel tournaments. They can choose between two dreidel craft activities (http://babaganewz.com/activities/make-your-own-dreidel and http://babaganewz.com/activities/dreidel-factory). Click here (http://babaganewz.com/activities/how-to-play-dreidel) for rules of the game.

Challenge families to rededicate their homes to Jewish values, as the Jews rededicated the Temple. Find out how here: http://babaganewz.com/articles/8-ways-to-rededicate-your-room.

Re: Hanukkah Resources for Family Educators

Shalom All, I would like to also recommend my Hanukkah book, which is out of print but still available on line through a few places: MY LUCKY DREIDEL. HANUKKAH STORIES, SONGS, POEMS, CRAFTS, RECIPES, AND FUN FOR KIDS. by Cherie Karo Schwartz (Smithmark, ©1994). It has minhagim and foods from over 20 countries, plus new ideas and rituals for creating enLIGHTENING Hanukkah celebrations, and is a grand resource for use in family education. Enjoy!
