Living SHABBAT Let There Be Light At sunset on Friday, we welcome Shabbat with candles. After we light them we say this blessing: Baruch Atah, Adonai Eloheinu, Melech ha'olam, asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav, v'tzivanu l'hadlik neir shel shabat. Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Ruler of the world, who makes us holy with Your mitzvot, and commands us to light the Shabbat candles. We Are Partners with Shabbat After God created the world, Shabbat cried, "Every day of the week has a partner, except me. Day 1 has Day 2, Day 3 has Day 4, and Day 5 has Day 6. Only I–Day 7–am alone." God comforted Shabbat, saying, "The Jewish people will be your partner." |
