Give and Get Rosh Hashanah Resources for Your School

This year, Rosh Hashanah begins on Wednesday, September 28th at sundown.

Many years ago in Europe, a Rosh Hashanah tradition was born. A village elder went from house to house with a bag full of coins. Those who could afford to contribute put coins in the bag; those who were poor and needed help took coins out of the bag. No distinction was made between those who put in and those who took out. This practice ensured that everyone in the community was able to enjoy a festive holiday.

In that spirit, we offer you these online resources for the new year. Please feel free to use them with your classes. If you would like to contribute, please add a comment with a favorite resource that you use to teach about the Jewish holidays, so your colleagues may use them as well.

Visit Babaganewz for articles with lesson plans, online Rosh Hashanah games (including Jewpardy!) and send e-cards to friends and family.

Play a skateboarding game that also teaches Rosh Hashanah vocabulary. The more “tricks” you land, the more points you earn!

Practice reading some of the brachot that we recite on the Jewish New Year (you’ll need to sign in with an email address).

Have a meaningful discussion about what Judaism means to your older students by watching this short video from a young Jew. Or, watch this humorous video about High Holy Day services (great for middle school).

How much do your students know about Rosh Hashanah? Take this quiz and find out.

Make a circle of kindness wheel or a good deeds calendar to inspire students to perform mitzvot.

Download some worksheets for your students (and families) to enjoy.

Shanah tovah!

A good tradition people in Europe follow. I feel that such activity is more or less charitable and quite interesting to learn that they help poor and needy that way. Inspiring article you have presented here. Thanks. click

School is necessarily your kids second home and so the atmosphere in the school is going to reflect in their behavior .They would develop an attitude of life based on the resources we provide them. Considering they are the citizens of tomorrow many organizations offer their hand in this regard. To visit more
