Kids' Diaries Help Research

According to a recent study by the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research, kids in two-parent households spend more time with their parents today than children did 20 years ago. "A lot of people out there say that because of changes in families, mothers and fathers are spending less time with children," says researcher Sandra Hofferth of the Institute for Social Research, "There was no actual evidence for it." While far more mothers now work outside of the home, they also spend 6 hours more per week with their children than moms did in 1981. Time spent with dads increased by four hours in the same period. Based largely on information from kids' own diaries, the study proved that having two parents who work does not mean Mom and Dad have less time to spend with you.
